General
- What is Awropla.com?
Awropla.com is a website.
Okay, more specifically, it's a project to create an online community of gamers focused on the concept of campaign networking. For more detailed information, please check out the About page.
- Is this site Moderated?
Some parts of Awropla are indeed moderated, but only so we can make sure the site's content is consistently awesome. Currently, the moderation here is threefold.
1. Forums - The forums are patrolled by volunteer moderators to make sure nothing A) illegal and B) insulting occurs. We do not tolerate unnecessary and unprovoked hatred or insult on the forums. We encourage you to discuss any number of gaming topics, but once the flames start to fly, we will quickly and efficiently warn all involved, and ban accounts if issues persist. We encourage you all to think about what you are typing before you post it; open-minded and constructive discussion and criticism is encouraged and supported, but vitriolic blather is prohibited.
Something you should understand, though, is that all of our moderators are chosen for their fairness and their reasoning abilities. "Cowboy" mods who act alone and get all ornery and ban-happy are just as likely to get chastised and banned as rogue users. If you feel any of our mods are being unfair or aggravating, contact the admins to get the situation resolved. We are always reachable.
2. Community Moderation - The admins and mods can only do so much, and we need your help to keep things awesome. We have implemented a semi-anonymous content-flagging system that you can use to let us know of any content that you feel needs a mod's authoritative perusal. If you find something inflammatory, virulent, malicious, illegal, or just plain opposite of awesome, flag it for a mod to inspect. We'll take a look at it, and only the admins will know who did the flagging.
Also, as stated above, our mods and admins are always available for contact.
Our future goals include implementing a system of 100% community-run moderation. We have some ideas on how to implement it, and will discuss it further on the forums as we get closer to that project.
3. Campaigns and Groups - The submission of new Campaigns and Gaming groups is currently moderated, but only temporarily and for entirely-technical beta-testing purposes. As the beta period ends and new layouts are implemented, these will be opened to unmoderated submission. please note: Campaigns are Groups are the only site content that is moderated pre-posting. This means that yes, these are the only two types of content that require moderator approval for posting.
- What is the deal with this site's obsession with Awesomeness?
If you've read the About page, then you should know that awesomeness is a major focus of this community. We're all about keeping everything awesome, and we value what you (the community) think is the most awesome. We encourage all members to keep their contributions top-notch, and have implemented a five-star "Awesomeness" rating system to help that along.
Awropla strives to promote the material that its members feel is most awesome. If you see something on this site that you think is great, then vote on it. Even one star is good, meaning you read the content and found it interesting, while five stars is the best and means that the content really knocked the pajamas off your gaming cat. You can change your vote (helpful if the content is updated after you vote), refrain from voting, and even flag content you feel is below this site's standards of awesomeness.
- Why do I not have the option to create anything besides a Forum Topic?
Your account has not been finalized yet. Due to the current Beta-Testing status of this community, we (the admins) want to verify all new members before their accounts are upgraded to full-contributor permissions. Once you've joined the site and had your account initially activated by a moderator, drop in over on the Introduction Forum and introduce yourself. One of our mods will finalize your account ASAP.
- I have some issues, how do I contact the mods?
You can contact our staff of volunteer moderators and admins through the contact form linked here and at the top of every page.
- Does Awropla have any RSS feeds?
Absolutely! Each of the below links is a RSS-compatible feed. Just follow the link in your browser, or plug it into your favorite feed-reader and stay up to date with the latest additions.
The major two feeds are:
* All New Content
* The Front Page NewsIf you want to break it down by individual content, here they are:
* New Characters
* New Quotes
* New Sessions
(more added frequently!)Additionally, every Gaming Group has its own individual content feed, which can be found by accessing your group's page and checking the right sidebar.
- Who's the Dwarf?
That's Dorf Derrick.
- Who's Dorf Derrick?
He's a Dwarf Cleric.
How-To
- How do I get started here?
Well, the first thing of course is to register for an account. Once you've done that, one of our mods should authorize you, and you'll be able to follow the link in the reg email and confirm your account, and set up a new password. After that, you'll be able to see just about all the content, and post on the forums. Head over to the Say Hello! forum, introduce yourself, and once we're pretty sure that you are indeed human, your account will be finalized and you'll be able to post campaigns, characters, rules and more to your heart's content.
- How do I upload character sheets?
When you submit a new character or edit an existing one, you should see an "Attachments" section near the bottom of the form. That field can be used to upload character sheets which can be downloaded by others seeing your character. Current allowed file formats are txt, doc, pdf, xls, jpg, and bmp.
- How can I get my own private forums?
Currently, Awropla allows members with Approved Contributor status to create special "Gaming Group" pages for their own local gaming circles. Among several other nifty features, creating a Gaming Group on Awropla gives your group their very own private discussion forum. Once created, your group's private forum can be found underneath the Awesome Gaming Groups forum category.
Groups
- Everything I post from the group Menu seems to be private...
By default, any content (Forum Topics, Characters, House Rules, etc) posted directly from your group's menu will be visible only by members of that group. If you want to show this content to everyone on the site (which we greatly encourage!), there are two ways to do this.
The first and easiest way is to post the content from the "Create Stuff" menu on the left, and not from the group menu. When you do so, at some point on each submission form you will see a "Groups" section. If you leave this alone, then the default target is the entire site. If you want to show just your group, then check that group on the list. If you want to show your group and the rest of the site, check the group and the "Public" box.
The second way is to post it through the Group menu, and make sure to expand the "Groups" section of the publishing form and check the "Public" box there.
If you've posted previously and can't figure it out, you can also ask an admin to change it for you.
- How do I post a private topic in my gaming group's private forum?
The easiest way to do this is to go to your group's home page and select "Create Forum Topic" from the group's menu on top of the left sidebar. This will load up a form that, when completed, will create a topic in your group's own private forum that only other members of your group (and admins) will be able to read.
Technical
- I found a bug. What can I do to help?
If you find a bug, please copy-paste the text of it, and if you can take a screenshot it would be even better. Head over to the Site Issues forum and see if anyone else has already posted about it. If so, chime in, and if not, make a new post about it. In your new post, please include the details of how it happened, what you were doing at the time, and attach the text and/or screenshot.
If you think the bug is a potential security issue, don't post it, and instead please use the contact form at the top of the page to notify an admin.
- Why can't I link to my uploaded images?
Awropla is first and foremost a Game networking site, and is not intended to be an image-linking site. You are allowed to add a large amount of images to this site, and link them to all of your various posts and content. However, we do not allow external linking of hosted images, as this could very quickly destroy our bandwidth. If you want to host your images online, there are several excellent free services that do this quite efficiently, including Flickr, Photobucket, and Picasa.
